About Sanjay S. Karnik
| Sanjay Karnik is a Senior Trial Counsel on Amin Talati Wasserman’s Government Investigations, Class Action and Business Litigation teams.
A former Assistant United States Attorney, Sanjay applies his outstanding federal litigation and trial skills to representing clients in a wide range of government investigation, class action, business, trademark and related intellectual property disputes. Bringing an analytically sound and zealous approach to his practice, Sanjay believes that effective legal advocacy requires exceptional legal writing, an investigator’s mindset and a clear understanding of his client’s goals. Sanjay’s government investigation, class action and business litigation work involve representing clients in disputes common to the food, beverage, supplement, drug and cosmetic industries. Sanjay defends deceptive or misleading labeling, adulteration and false advertising investigations brought by the FDA, FTC and state attorneys’ general, and litigates deceptive trade practice and unfair competition claims brought under Section 43(a) of the federal Lanham Act and California’s B&P § 17200–17500 and Consumer Legal Remedies Act. Sanjay’s practice also includes litigating trademark infringement, trade secret claims, business defamation and breach of contract matters primarily related to manufacturing/supplier, distribution and intellectual property agreements. His work brings him before federal district and appellate courts across the country as well as the USPTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. While at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia, Sanjay represented the United States in civil enforcement and defensive litigation matters in addition to criminal prosecutions. After law school clerkships with the Louisiana Attorney General and the U.S. Department of Justice – Antitrust Division, Sanjay began his career practicing commercial litigation and also clerked for the Hon. Edwin A. Lombard on the Louisiana Court of Appeal, Fourth Circuit. Born and raised in New Orleans, Sanjay enjoys cooking Louisiana dishes and is an avid Saints fan. His other hobbies include running, basketball, golf and reading American history and biography books. |
