About Javier Gonzalez Rivera
Javier advises on a myriad of regulatory compliance matters for clients who market food, beverage, dietary supplements, cosmetics, medical devices, over-the-counter and homeopathic drugs, and animal veterinary products. Prior to joining the firm, Javier worked at the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, Gavi- the Vaccine Alliance in Switzerland, and Georgetown’s O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law. In these roles he advised on issues revolving around food and drug law, tobacco control, international trade and intellectual property. Javier also has several years of experience in complex civil litigation and arbitration.
Javier possesses an LL.M. and certificate in Food and Drug Law from Georgetown University, and is also a registered Patent Attorney. He is able to advise and guide life science clients on the intersection of FDA regulatory matters and intellectual property law, with a focus on patents. He is the Young Lawyer Representative for the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section and is a frequent contributor to the Health Law’s Cancer Advocacy Group, where he serves as its Chair of Editorials. A former Senior Editor for Georgetown’s Food and Drug Law Journal, he now serves on the Food and Drug Law Journal Editorial Advisory Board for the Food and Drug Law Institute. Having a true passion for science and law, he is also a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Public Health and the American Medical Association Journal of Ethics.
Outside of the office Javier continues his search for balance between attempting to try each restaurant in D.C. while staying fit. A native of Puerto Rico, he is married to an Argentine and often finds himself unable to root for Brazil during soccer matches. He enjoys all basketball-related activities, paddle boarding and practicing CrossFit when it’s not so cold outside.
